In a remarkable show of support for the brewing industry and its cultural heritage, Hopsteiner, a global leader in hop growing, processing, and distribution, has proudly announced a generous donation of $25,000 to the Michael James Jackson Foundation (MJJF). This substantial contribution underlines Hopsteiner’s commitment to fostering innovation, education, and sustainability within the craft beer community.

Michael James Jackson

The Michael James Jackson Foundation, named after the late pioneering beer and distillation journalist, aims to honor Jackson’s legacy by funding technical education and career advancement for black, indigenous, and people of color in the brewing and distilling industries. Known as the “Beer Hunter,” Jackson was renowned for his invaluable contributions to beer literature and his relentless pursuit of excellence within the craft beer industry. While not a person of color himself, he actively supported BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color).

Hopsteiner has worked with Garrett Oliver, the founder, and chairmen of the MJJF, and Brewmaster at The Brooklyn Brewery for many years. Through this journey, Hopsteiner has witnessed his dedication to the MJJF’s mission firsthand. Oliver’s unwavering determination to open the craft brewing industry to BIPOC has demonstrated his passion for creating meaningful change in the areas that matter most.

“We’re currently working to finish the interviews for our 5th cohort of scholarship finalists,” said Garrett Oliver, founder and chair of The MJJF. “This contribution from Hopsteiner couldn’t come at a better time. Courses for these aspiring brewers can range from $4,000 all the way up to $23,000. The donation from Hopsteiner can go a very long way.”

The generous donation from Hopsteiner underscores the company’s dedication to supporting initiatives that enhance the art and science of brewing with the unwavering belief in the power of collective action to create positive change. By donating to the MJJF, Hopsteiner reinforces its commitment to the growth and evolution of the brewing industry, ultimately creating a more equitable and dynamic future by making all voices heard that make this industry as great as it is.
