Der Bierfarben-Standard Reference Method- (SRM) Rechner schätzt, wie hell oder dunkel Ihr Bier wird, basierend auf bekannten Getreidefarbwerten, die Getreiden, Extrakten und Zusatzstoffen zugeordnet werden. Zudem berücksichtigt er die Menge der Zutaten, um das ungefähre Farbprofil des fertigen Biers mit Hilfe der Malt Color Units- (MCU) Formel zu berechnen, die bei Bieren mit heller Farbe recht präzise ist, aber bei Bieren mit SRM von über 10 immer ungenauer wird. Werte über 40 werden als schwarz gemeldet.
